THE LAST HONEST MAN
Joseph Standish thinks that higher end fashion can be very esoteric and difficult for people to relate to. His graduation collection is a reaction to his personal frustration with the widespread use of industry standard models, in an attempt to represent a much wider idea of beauty. “I wanted to create characters that I felt were more real; drinking beer, eating take away and getting bad tattoos.” He created his relatable ‘Honest Men’, whom he refers to as ‘the 5’9s and the 9 to 5’s’, with big bellies, bodily hair and all, using low-key materials such as a shredded denim patchwork with DIY-like patches and bold techniques like papier-mâché.
