Woody ‘s-Gravenmade’s collection mixes typical Western European clothes with traditional Middle Eastern garments, inspiring us to consider the two cultures as one. Islamic garments such as the burka or niqab and women hiding their hair might just as well be a perfectly fashionable proposal. Similarly, he looked at Dutch-Moroccan youths in their traditional djellaba’s combined with shiny puffa jackets and high fashion Italian brands to inspire his silhouettes. To emphasize the modernity and familiarity of his proposal he threw in a warped print of the iconic checked ‘Turk bag’ as well as using the actual woven Turk bags to construct his clothes.
